Must Visit Allahabad Kumbh Mela in 2019

Kumbh Mela is a mass gathering of Hindu Pilgrims to bathe in the holy rivers (Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati,). There are four such melas and they are Haridwar Kumbh Mela, Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha, Ujjain Simhastha and Allahabad (Prayag) Kumbh Mela. At Ujjain and Nashik, the Mela held while a planet is in Leo, also known as Simhastha as well. At Allahabad and Haridwar, an Ardha Kumbh Mela is held every sixth year and a Maha ("Great") Kumbh Mela happens after 144 years.

Vishnu was carrying a pot (Kumbh) of nectar (Amrit) when a scuffle broke out and 4 drops were spilled and fell to earth at the four Tirthas of Haridwar, Nasik, Ujjain, and Prayag. A tirtha is a place where the devout can get salvation and the event is celebrated every 3 years by the Kumbh Mela and held at each tirtha in turn- the Sangam the ‘King of Tirthas’ and the Kumbh is held here once in every 12 years, which is the holiest and greatest of all Kumbh melas.

Allahabad Kumbh Mela takes place at the Triveni Sangam and the view of the Mela from the Triveni Ghat is just mind-blowing. The Mela that takes place every 6 years in only Haridwar and Allahabad is called Ardh Kumbh Mela. Also, The Ardh Kumbh Mela in Prayag will take place in January-February.

Kumbh Mela is one of the most popular fairs where devotees, tourists, and visitors from every corner of the world come to achieve spiritual clarity as well as wash off sins in the ritual bathing at the Sangam.
